One thing that I have learnt from my Mami (Minu Rath) is the art of giving. She has the heart to go an extra mile to offer her love and generosity to anyone she meets. This recipe is from her kitchen.

Odia food is restricted to few ingredients for those who observe ‘Osa’ or ‘fast’ in the month of Kartika.

My Mami cooked up this dish using those few ingredients, proving its the thought that matters.


  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 red chilli
  • 1 green chili
  • 12 to 15 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp mango ginger (Curcuma amada)
  • ½ cup thick curd
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup Vermicelli



Heat oil in a wok and crackle cumin seeds, dried red chilies, mango ginger and curry leaves. Then add vermicelli and fry a little.

Turn off the heat and add curd and chopped green chilies.
